2008 Canada Hunt - 102008
The day before on Sunday we scouted primarly north of Unity, SK. We ended up finding a couple of nice fields, one a unharvasted pea field with lots of snows and ducks, and a wheat field with approx 500 bigger Canadas.
We chose to go after the canadas in the wheat field on Monday.
The day started with me realizing that I had left Punch's collar and transmitter at th motel. Luckily we were only about 10 mins away. I got back just in time for the shooting to start.
Most of the geese went to the pea field but we did end up decoy a couple of group up close and in our face. Due to Kurts lights out shooting we did pretty good. Kurt ended up shooting 2 triples and 1 double.
Harvest: 11 Lessers, 4 Tanks, and 1 Drake

October - Finally!
Life starts in October! The weather cools down, college football Saturdays, hunting right around the corner. It just doesn't get any better than this!
Punch is Home!
I made the trip to Bayard to pick up Punch yesterday. I picked up Matt Gideon and Steve Roe in Wood River. Matt has his dog already with Chris and Steve took his dog out with us to start his training.
I was very impressed with the amount of time that Chris spent with me going over all of the training that Punch had been through, and what I should spend time on in the coming months.
We started with the swim-by drill. Very Cool. We then worked on some cheating singles in the swim by pond. We then moved to another pond and tested the swim-by with some difficult cheater singles. He handled it great.
We worked our way over to where his assistants were setting up a marking test. Chris handled him in a honor drill, then I got to handle him on the marks. He drove out nice on the long bird (275 yrds), but had an extended hunt, other than that he did great.
We finished up the day by running him through a pattern blind drill. It was a long day a he was getting tired, but I could tell he knew the concept well.
I just hope I can build a nice house on the foundation that Chris and the crew at Flatlander Kennels laid for Punch!
Punch is Coming Home!
I am driving out to Bayard this coming Monday night to pick up Punch and bring him home! Matt Gideon and one of his friends is coming along. Matt's dog River is in training with Chris so he is excited to see her.
Comment by Danny Farmer
This is a neat comment by Danny Farmer on the Waterdog Forum:
Quote:
1. Obedience in the yard on sit.
2. Yes, I have a young puppy that looks nice but is only in the puppy stage, no basics yet.
3. Trumarc's Zip Code (Cody)
Cody is Punch's Great Grandpa on his sire's grandma's side. P.S. Danny Farmer is known as the #1 Professional Retriever Trainer of all time, that is until Chris Jobman takes over that title here in a few years!
Flatlander Kennels attend SRS in Miami, OK
Chris is running six dogs in this weeks SRS event in Miami, OK (www.superretrieverseries.com)
After watching the dogs run two weeks ago at the Salt Valley HRC Hunt Test in Lincoln, NE, Chris stands a great chance at making the Finals with one of these dogs!
I would like to wish Chris and all the owners good luck!
Suggustions on how to use My Duck Dog!
I envision this site being used two different ways. One, you can either set up a personal User Site and then track all of your dogs in one, or set up individual User Sites for each of your dogs and track them individually.
Use your blog as a training journal, send out request for training tips, set up a User Group for your trainging group or Retriever Club and share information between all of your members.
Information should be limited to Retrievers, but of course, you can't call your retreiver a Duck Dog without taking it to the marsh or river and shooting some fatty mallards or big O' Canada's with him by your side. So please add all of your hunting tales!
Please send me a message if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.
