Having a hard time remembering to post. Have been working mostly with the Pattern Blinds and some cheating singles.
Punch memorized the pattern basically in a couple of days. He will run straight lines with no problem. Last week I added diversions to the pattern. I had Emily sit in a white chair, ran Punch and he wanted to go to the right where he thought there should be a bird. Stopped him and had a couple of refusals because he wanted to stay and hunt. Got him handled over to the blind. The second time Emily threw a mark, and then I had a hard time getting him to pick it up because he wanted to go to the blind and not them mark. Got every thing worked out on the third time.
Two days later Jeff Bundy and I ran the Pattern and Punch did great on both the run by and the mark. He is a pretty fast learner.
He been using the end of the puppy pond to work on cheating singles. The pond is only about 15 yrds wide and so he has the chance to cheat on both sides. Worked from close up to about 75 yrds back. Whenever it looks like he is going to cheat, I stop him, and cast into the water, always trying to keep him in the water on the return, which is actually harder then on the retrieve.
